051-0620-16LUrban Mutations on the Edge: Degrowth Information Belegung eingeschränkt - Details anzeigen 2 KP2SM. Angélil
KurzbeschreibungThe course consists of weekly lectures by members of the ETH or by invited guests that will address special topics in architecture, urbanism, and contemporary research issues.
LernzielThe seminar will engage discussions of research methodology, i.e. the how, but also will attempt to foreground the why. For example, why do we, as architects, endeavor to “do” “research” on the city? What does it produce and how does it inform the practices of architecture and urban design? What are the political dimensions of urban research and to what extent can such practices reach beyond our own disciplines to address larger issues? What are the different modes of conducting this kind of urban research? How do the decisions about how to approach a topic change the ways that it is understood and produced? In other words, what are the techniques of research and what are their implications?

Participants should leave the course with an understanding of current urban research issues and with the tools to conduct that research themselves.
SkriptTexts to accompany each presentation will be sent via email before each weekly session.

Wahlfacharbeit für Master-Studierende
6 KP11AM. Angélil
KurzbeschreibungWithin three elective courses the students need to fulfill an elective work (seminar work). Elective works serve the independent way of dealing with the contents of the according elective course.

SkriptTexts to accompany each presentation to be found in the course readers. Volume 01 contains a range of material and can serve a general companion to the course. Volume 2.2 contains specific texts proposed by the lectures that will complement their presentation.

065-0068-00LMAS Programme "Urban Transformation in Developing Territories" Information Belegung eingeschränkt - Details anzeigen 0 KP12KM. Angélil
KurzbeschreibungThe MAS programme is structured around an investigation of transforming urban conditions as they pertain to global phenomena, and the development of practical tools for operating within such domains.
LernzielThe programme aims at developing a culture of urban research and design that will enable the participant to actively engage in envisioning future urban scenarios. Secondly, a strong emphasis is put on methodology, process design and communication in order to prepare for the interdisciplinary negotiating agenda of the urban designer as future member of professional design offices, academic research teams, public services or communication agencies.
InhaltEach year, the MAS studio will focus on two specific topics of urban research and two existing sites on which to intervene in the form of two design research studios. The sites are preferably territories under development pressure with existing groups of urban actors to engage with.
