KurzbeschreibungThis experimental proseminar presents an introduction of key experiments in particle physics, the results of which often led to a Nobel Prize in physics. It is meant to be complementary to the "Experimental Methods" course 402-0725-00L which linearly introduces different detector technologies.
LernzielThis course integrates knowledge of all detector components (tracking, calorimetry, trigger) in discussing the experiments as a whole. It also augments the particle physics master curriculum with more experimental content and is meant to be followed in parallel to PPP II (402-0891-00L) or PPP II (402-0702-00L). It also exposes the students to original papers using the seminal text by Cahn and Goldhaber.
InhaltCP Violation, Bs Oscillation, weak and strong interactions, top quark discovery, neutrino oscillations, Discovery of Vectormesons, Foundations of the Standard Model
LiteraturCahn, Goldhaber "Experimental Foundations of Particle Physics" (2nd edition), Cambridge University Press
Voraussetzungen / BesonderesRecommended: Phenomenology of Particle Physics I (or II) (in parallel)
