AbstractIn this course causal relationships between morphology, growth, development and yield of crop plants will be explained. Based on this, system-oriented aspects of plant life strategy, of the design of cultivation systems and of monitoring and assessing interactions within the agroecosystem and between crops and their biotic and abiotic environment will be discussed.
ObjectiveDuring this course, students acquire essential knowledge on the production of healthy food and feed of high quality as well as on the production of raw materials from crop plants. Via lectures and ‘hands-on-experience’ they understand better how to use resources such as water, soil and mineral nutrients more sustainably. Moreover, this course provides the basis to deal more intensely with the dedicated improvement of crops via breeding or other plant-related measures.
