AbstractIn Euclidean geometry, given a line and a point outside of it, there exists a unique line through the given point and parallel to the given line. We will study two of the simplest examples of non-Euclidean geometry, one (the sphere) where there are no parallel lines through a given point, and one (the hyperbolic plane), where there are infinitely many.
ObjectiveBecoming familiar with the (elementary) geometry of the sphere and the hyperbolic plane, which are crucial examples and objects of study in several areas of geometry.
