KurzbeschreibungThe course covers fundamental aspects and concepts of solid-state chemistry essential for understanding the structure and properties of solids, from bulk to nanostructures. The goal is to establish the relationship between the atomic and mesoscale structure and electrical, magnetic and optical properties of solids.
LernzielTo establish understanding of the atomic structure and chemical bonding in solids, methods of characterizing the structure and physical properties of the solids, and the ability to link structure with the property for a given class of materials. A conceptual understanding of the chemistry of nanoscale inorganic materials is targeted as well.
InhaltTopics include: basic crystallography, including space groups, close packed structure models, important crystal structures and properties associated with them, crystal defects, synthesis methods for solids, characterization of solids by diffraction, microscopy and spectroscopy methods, bonding in solids, phase diagrams, physical properties (electrical, magnetic and optic).
