AbstractBased on part I of the case study course the main reaction and purification steps of one process alternative are investigated. Models describing the different unit operations have to be built. These models are used for a sensitivity analysis and optimization of the operating conditions. The results are discussed with regard to technical, economic, safety, and environmental implications.
Objective- application of the knowledge obtained in lectures
- modeling of unit operations
- problem-oriented problem solving (application of different methods to the same subject)
- team work
- report writing and presentation techniques
ContentBased on the process evaluation conducted in part I of the case study course the main reaction and purification steps of one process alternative are investigated in detail. For this purpose models describing the different unit operations have to be built. These models are used for a sensitivity analysis and optimization of the operating conditions. The results are discussed with regard to technical, economic, safety, and environmental implications. The final result also includes a detailed mass and energy balance for selected operating conditions. The findings of this course are further evaluated in the third part of the case study course.
