Abstract | This course covers the basic methodological principles of social-scientific research, and provides an insight into its underlying theoretical and methodological rationale and its concrete procedures. Methods and concepts are demonstrated in the context of guided interviews and questionnaire research. Exercises deepen the knowledge gained in the course. | |||||

Content | Alle Teilnehmenden verpflichten sich zur aktiven Mitarbeit in Form von drei Übungen (leitfadengestütztes Interview, Erstellung von Fragebogen, Auswertung von Daten). Inhaltsübersicht: (1) Wozu empirische (Sozial-)Forschung? (2) Der Forschungsablauf im Überblick, verknüpfen von qualitativen und quantitativen Methoden (3) Leitfadengestützte Interviews: erstellen Leitfaden, Durchführung und Auswertung (4) Fragebogen: Hypothesen erarbeiten, Fragebogen erstellen, Durchführung, Daten auswerten, und Resultate darstellen | |||||

Abstract | The course provides an overview of the various methodological approaches in empirical social research and covers the different stages of the research process. Acquired skills are applied in a research project on the topic of "environmental behavior" or "development policy". | |||||

Content | Empirical social research employs a wide variety of research methods, such as surveys or laboratory and non-reactive field experiments. The course will begin with an overview of the various methodological approaches, including their advantages and disadvantages and the conditions under which their use is appropriate. It will continue with a discussion of the different stages of the research process, including hypothesis generation, formulating a research plan, measurement, sampling, data collection and data analysis. This knowledge will be applied to conducting a research project on a suitable topic. | |||||
