Kurzbeschreibung | In this course, doctoral students are sensibilized to ethical issues in the sciences. After a general introduction to ethics as well as to ethics in the sciences, selected topics of scientific integrity will be dealt with in an exemplary way. Thirdly, discipline-specific problems of ethics are addressed in group work. | |||||
Lernziel | Doctoral students receive an overview of philosophical ethics as well as of ethics in the sciences and humanities. They are supported in identifying, analyzing and dealing with ethical problems in their own scientific research. Furthermore, they can reflect on their professional role as scientific researchers. | |||||
Inhalt | In this course, doctoral students are sensibilized to ethical issues in the sciences. First, a general introduction to ethics as well as to ethics in the sciences will be given in a lecture and discussion format. Second, selected topics of scientific integrity will be dealt with in an exemplary way in a mixed format, consisting of lectures and discussions as well as workshops. Thirdly, specific problems of ethics and scientific integrity in certain disciplines will be addresses in group work in a workshop format. | |||||

Kurzbeschreibung | Die praktische Philosophie hat es beschreibend und bewertend mit dem Praktischen, also mit dem Bereich des Handelns und der Praktiken, mit Normen für Handlungen und mit Werten von Personen und Gesellschaften zu tun. Ethik und politische Philosophie sind ein Teil von ihr. In diesem Einführungskurs werden eine Reihe von zentralen Autoren und Problemen der praktischen Philosophie erörtert werden. | |||||
Lernziel | Der Kurs wird eine Mischung aus Vorlesung und Seminar sein. Leistungspunkte nach Absprache mit dem Dozenten durch eine kleine schriftliche Arbeit Themenbereich der Ethik erworben werden. | |||||
Inhalt | Die Ethik ist die Lehre vom Guten, das vom bewussten, intentionalen Verhalten (=vom Handeln) erreicht werden kann. Sie ist ein wesentlicher Teil der praktischen Philosophie. Deshalb gehört zu den zentralen Fragen der praktischen Philosophie, die im Kurs behandelt werden, die Frage: 1. Was bedeutet "gut" und "schlecht" in der ethischen Sprache? Was meint man mit "gut", wenn man sagt: "Freiwilligen Arbeit beim <Roten Kreuz> ist gut"? Meint man zum Beispiel, das Tun sei nützlich oder es sei altruistisch oder fair? Weitere Fragen werden sein: 2. Lassen sich moralische Urteile wie "Niedrigere Steuern für reiche Ausländer im Kanton <Zug> sind ungerecht" oder "Jede Person muss das Recht haben, jede Religionsgemeinschaft zu verlassen" begründen? Wenn ja, wie weit reicht die Begründung dafür? Stimmt es, wenn man sagt: "Man kann zwar nachweisen, dass die Aussage wahr ist: (a) Die Stickstoffdioxid-Belastung in Zürich hat den zulässigen Grenzwert überschritten (80 mg/m3). Man kann aber nicht nachweisen, dass die Aussage wahr ist: (b) Heutzutage hat die Ungleichverteilung von Reichtum auf der Erde die zulässigen Grenzen überschritten. (a) stellt objektive Tatsachen fest, (b) drückt eine bloß subjektive, wenn auch vielleicht verbreitete Wertung aus." 3. Was charakterisiert gerechte Gesetze, und wie ist das Verhältnis zwischen Recht und Moral zu verstehen? 4. Recht und Moral setzen voraus, dass Personen frei sind. Ist diese vorausgesetzte Freiheit eine Illusion? Solche Fragen sollen zum Teil im Rückgriff auf klassische Texte aus der westlichen Philosophiegeschichte behandelt werden (u.a. Platon, Aristoteles, Thomas Hobbes, David Hume, Immanuel Kant). Zeitgenössische Philosophen wie Jürgen Habermas, Thomas Nagel, Ernst Tugendhat oder Bernard Williams werden ebenfalls einbezogen werden. 5. Ein Teil der Veranstaltung geht der Frage nach, was “guter" Forschungsethos und intellektuelle Redlichkeit bedeutet. | |||||

Kurzbeschreibung | Das Seminar soll Grundzüge des Begriffs von Wissen aufklären, wie er in unserer erfahrungsförmigen Beziehung zur Welt enthalten ist. Dazu gehört eine Klärung des Unterschiedes zwischen Wissen und Meinung, der Beziehungen zwischen Objektivität und Wissen sowie der Rolle, die Gründe für das Wissen spielen. Darüber hinaus sollen verschiedenartige Ansprüche, etwas zu wissen, beurteilt werden. | |||||
Lernziel | Man sollte gelernt haben, was für und gegen die These spricht, wonach Wissen wahre gerechtfertigte Überzeugung ist. Man wird besser die Rolle von Gründe für Wissensansprüche verstehen und man wird einige Einsichten in Vorzüge und Schwächen einer naturalistischen Auffassung von Wissen gewonnen haben. Auch wird man vertrauter sein mit einigen Theorien der philosophischen Erkenntnistheorie. |
